At the DAFT Annual General Meeting, Bob Thursby was appointed President to follow on from the late Jim McMillan. Not the first time has Bob followed in Jim’s footsteps as they both attended Chester-le-Street Grammar School.
Bob was the youngest player on the pitch in the 1957 FA Amateur Cup Final for Bishop Auckland FC (having signed from Stanley Utd) against Wycombe Wanderers, and went on to collect his first full amateur international cap against West Germany that same year at the age of 19. He eventually captained the England amateur side for seven of his 17 caps.
Bob studied dentistry and had a successful career in his native Chester-Le-Street. He has been a member of the DAFT Committee for several years, and has also taken on the role of Deputy Chairman following the resignation of John Atkinson.
