The Durham Amateur Football Trust has come out of hibernation and has a small exhibition at the Bishop Auckland People’s Museum in the Hippodrome Bingo Hall. There is an interesting mix of exhibits from in and around Bishop Auckland and our exhibition concentrates on the footballers who played for Bishop Auckland who played, coached and managed the Great Britain Olympic teams in the 1950s. In particular Derek Lewin and Bob Hardisty. You can see their original kit in the display case as well as some information boards and photographs.
The museum is open when the Hippodrome is open. Unfortunately it is not currently accessible to U18s as the premises are licensed, although this is being worked on at present. There is a day for U18s on Monday 16 August when organised activities will be available between 12 noon and 4 pm, starting with a short talk about the history of the Hippodrome. Address: 27 Railway Street, Bishop Auckland DL14 7LR · 01388 602121
